Makai's Lava and Ocean Vases are inspired by the creation of the Hawaiian Islands and how they were formed millions of years ago. Hot molten lava emerged from the volcanoes crater and flowed to meet the churning ocean below. When the water met the hot molten it cracked and popped, hardening into porous lava rock. This is what forms the rugged ocean coastline you see today.
Makai’s Creation Series vases are created using this same method. The hot molten glass is submerged intocool water, cracking the surface while the core remains molten. When this is blown into, it induces a crackling affect that breaks the outside surface color, allowing light to shine through and giving that magical glow.
