Makai Glass Maui is an artist-owned studio founded by Justin Brown and Randy Schaffer, two craftsmen dedicated to redefining contemporary Hawaiian glass art. Every piece is handcrafted in our Upcountry Maui art gallery and studio, inspired by the ocean, wind, lava, and natural beauty of the islands.

Justin Brown is known for his detailed full humpback whales, dolphins, sea turtles, fish, and other sculptural lifeforms that capture the movement, personality, and spirit of Hawaii’s marine world. Each glass blown sculpture reflects his mastery of form and his lifelong connection to the ocean.

Randy Schaffer is celebrated for his intricate murrini style, layering color, pattern, and texture into molten glass. His illuminated murrini glass sculptures come alive on custom hardwood light bases, projecting vibrant reflections that transform any space.

Our talented Makai team creates the studio’s iconic designs including waves, whale tails, jellyfish, pineapples, and seashells, each one shaped by hand and infused with the energy of the islands.

We also design and build custom glass lighting installations, from multi orb chandeliers to cascading pendant clusters and architectural statement pieces. Each lighting project is customized to its environment, blending art and illumination into immersive lightscapes.
